Serowe CBM Project
Serowe CBM Project
The Serowe Project near the town of Serowe in the Central District of Botswana consists of ~420,000 hectares of prospecting licenses in the Karoo-Kalahari Basin. Botala has identified an independently certified 2C Resource of 454 billion cubic feet (bcf) in the immediate vicinity of 11 wells drilled within these tenements, and a total prospective resource of more than 7 trillion cubic feet (tcf) within the total area of the Serowe project. Botala is exploring and developing the cbm potential, aiming to locate high-graded focus areas, or “sweet spots”, and developing procedures to stimulate cbm flows in commercially attractive volumes.
Exploration has increased the independently certified resource from an initial 23.8bcf 2C (Serowe-1) to 454bcf at the end of Serowe 5.
Since listing on the ASX Botala has completed another 6 exploration wells in the project area, with Serowe 6 and Serowe 7 being completed in early 2023; and Serowe 3-5 being completed in early 2024 bringing the total to 11. Serowe 7 was successfully drilled to the target depth of 510m with logging confirming the presence of gas in 35m of coal intersects within 3 seams. Botala has made the decision to progress with flow testing Serowe 7 and is currently planning surface facilities for flow-testing on site.
Serowe 3 has been showing steady progress with the annulus pressure increasing. Botala has completed drilling 4 new pilot wells around the site of Serowe 3 with core sample testing being conducted in early 2024. A comprehensive geophysical survey over both the Serowe 3 and Serowe 7 areas has been completed as part of the well location selection. This provides Botala with a greater understanding of the presence of coal sections. The site of the Serowe 3 well is location links it to the three main coal seems within the Serowe Area.
