Pitse Project
Pitse Project
The current appraisal phase includes the drilling of 4 new appraisal wells with geographical information being used to accurately determine their locations. These 4 new wells have been drilled and tested with a 250-500m spacing in a square pattern around Serowe 3 well, plus further testing of Serowe 3-1 well.
All the wells will be logged to determine coal depths, thicknesses, correlations, and coal continuity. The composition of cbm obtained from Serowe 3 and its four surrounding wells will be measured regularly.
The proposed layout will assist to define reservoir boundaries and pressure communications between wells. Pressure communication and radial extent can be determined from interference tests performed at timed intervals during production. The results will be used to estimate optimal spacing and well density for commercial development.
Downstream Development Concepts
In recognition of the global transition to renewable energy, Botala is developing the following opportunities additional to its main focus on cbm exploration and development:
- Serowe Energy Hub: proposal for a ~20MW solar/gas hybrid plant to feed electricity into a nearby substation, and
- Leupane Energy Hub and Industrial Park: proposal for:
- Leupane Energy Hub: Targeting a 700MW solar/gas hybrid plant near the Morupule power station to feed electricity into the domestic and Southern African Development Community (SADC) networks via the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP), and
- Leupane Industrial Park: to provide space and services (adjacent to the Leupane Energy Hub) for new-age industries attracted by reliable and affordable energy, its favourable geographic location with access to the SADC markets and its ports for export to Asia and Europe, attractive investment climate, presence of a skilled work force, and access to research facilities.
