Overview
Botala Energy Ltd (Botala) is a gas exploration and development company which aspires to be a clean energy producer using the coal bed methane (cbm) potential of the Serowe Project in Botswana and combining it with solar power generation. Botala is the operator and owns 100% of the Serowe Project.
Botala is undertaking further exploration and appraisal work to prove up the cbm field in preparation to produce cbm in commercial quantities. In parallel, Botala is developing renewable energy opportunities to combine with cbm electricity generation and reduce carbon emissions. Since admission to the ASX, Botala’s immediate objectives are to explore, appraise and develop the Serowe Project aiming to become a commercially viable and sustainable producer of cbm.
Currently, Botala has been granted environmental approval for the development of its gas field, complete with a pipeline to the proposed Leupane Energy Hub.
Botala has progressed with separate Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for the Serowe and Leupane sites to obtain approval in establishing gas/solar hybrid power stations should gas flow reach commercial flow rates in Serowe 3 and Serowe 7. The EIAs for these projects are currently out for public assessment which is the final stage prior to approval being awarded.
Botala has received Environmental Approval for Project Naledi, the Serowe Coal Bed Methane (CBM) Project. This will include a ~100km pipeline from our wellfields to the proposed Leupane Energy Hub and Industrial Park this approval is a significant milestone for Botala.
The Leupane EIA includes the Leupane Industrial Park to include industry attracted by reliable and affordable energy. The hub is currently in early stages of research and development and will be designed to supply electricity to the domestic market and export into the Southern African Power Pool. Botala has been granted a Special Economic Zone Licence (SEZA) by Botswana’s Special Economic Zone Authority for the Leupane Energy Hub and Industrial Park for proposed manufacture of solar PV panels with Solar Finland.
Current projects Botala is working on:
Serowe Project
Site 3
- Serowe 3-1 has reached an appraisal milestone, having been successfully flared twice.
- Serowe 3-4 is the final well to be spudded in the 5 well system at site 3.
- Coring and desorption testing programme commenced with Serowe 3-4.
Site-7
- Has been drilled to target depth of 510m.
- NMR confirms the presence of gas in 35m of coal intersects in 3 seams.
- Flow-testing to be undertaken, with surface facilities being installed.
Downstream Project Developments – Leupane and Serowe Energy Hubs to provide future sales facilities for cbm and electricity.
EIA currently under public review for final assessment for approval.
Early-stage renewables – Design of solar/cbm hybrid electricity generating plant to minimise carbon emissions, limit flaring and utilise produced water.
Solar Manufacturing – Joint development with Solar Finland of a business case to establish photovoltaic (pv) Solar Panel Manufacturing facility in Botswana utilising Solar Finland’s SolaTM technology.
